Milan Looking to Loan Niclas Füllkrug from West Ham After a Turbulent Season
Milan are lining up a temporary move for Niclas Füllkrug, who is currently out of favour at West Ham following a troubling spell at the London club. The Germany international arrived for £27.5 million in the summer of 2024, but has struggled to make an impact under new coach Nuno Espírito Santo and does not feature in his plans.
Füllkrug has failed to find the back of the net in nine appearances this season and was not included in the matchday squad as West Ham slipped to a 3-2 home defeat to Aston Villa. The 32-year-old hasn’t started a game since early October, and his signing is viewed within West Ham as one of the less successful decisions of former technical director Tim Steidten.
The main hurdle for potential suitors is Füllkrug’s substantial wages tied to his four-year contract with Dortmund, which has discouraged permanent January suitors. However, a loan spell at Milan for the remainder of the season is being considered as a viable option.
West Ham had hoped to move the striker on this past summer and, with a series of fitness issues and struggles to adapt to the Premier League, he has managed only three league goals in 11 starts. The club’s forward line currently features Callum Wilson as a competing option, and a short-term loan could help balance their attacking options.
Nuno Espirito Santo is seeking a proven English football presence in the forward line. While West Ham are also monitoring Norwich City’s Josh Sargent, that possibility has not progressed, and Nuno is eyeing a centre-back reinforcement as well. There is potential movement elsewhere in the squad that could improve West Ham’s finances, such as selling James Ward-Prowse and Luis Guilherme, another high-profile decision under Steidten. There could even be interest in Lucas Paquetá from clubs in Brazil.
