A controversial move by St Joseph's RC High School to ban mobile phones during the school day has sparked debate among parents and educators.

Another critical factor is the learning from the tragic murder of Brianna Ghey in Warrington. The incident highlighted the harmful impact of online content on young people, emphasizing the need for a safe six-hour period during the school day where students are not distracted by phone-related concerns or exposed to online influences.
The new government guidelines have also played a significant role in this decision. The national 'reset' on mobile phones in schools emphasizes that mobile devices must not be used by students at all during school hours. This includes using phones as calculators, research tools, or to check school apps, as these activities can isolate children socially from their peers.
The consequences for phone usage in school are clear. A first offense will result in the phone being confiscated until the end of the day. A second offense will lead to the phone being held in the school office until the end of the week or until a parent or caregiver can retrieve it. These strict measures aim to reinforce the school's commitment to a mobile-free environment.
